Harrogate & Knaresborough Sunday 15 July 2018

Harrogate is a beautiful old Yorkshire town with many attractions. From all the famous high street stores to many individual craft shops selling all local produce and wares. One of the best cafes in town is the famous ‘Bettys’ not to be missed even if it is only for a tea or coffee. Then onto Knaresborough which is famous for Old Mothers Shiptons cave where you can see stalagmites and stalactites hanging from the top of the cave and growing up to the roof of the cave, centuries old. Old toys have been thrown in here which have also become covered in the lime deposit. Of course there are lots of shops and cafes too.

National Trust Upton House & Gardens Thursday 26 July 2018

In 1927 Lord and Lady Bearsted viewed Upton House with ‘the eye of imagination’ and soon set about creating their made-to-measure country home. Sold! This year you are invited to a very special house viewing. Purchased in 1927 by the 2nd Viscount Bearsted, Upton had great potential, but needed modernisation. You can follow the renovations and witness the ‘before’ and ‘after’, as the Bearsteds fashioned a made-to-measure family home, fit to showcase a world-class art collection, including works by Bosch, Stubbs, El Greco, as well as fine porcelain. Every ideal home needs a spectacular garden, and Lady Bearsted certainly created one. Her passion for plants bloomed, with early spring bulbs, lavish herbaceous planting and thriving kitchen garden, all reflecting in the Mirror Pool. Morning coffee/tea which is included in the price will be provided in the private dining room where you will be given your entrance ticket and a personal host will be able to give you a brief description of the house, after which you are free to enjoy the day at your leisure.
