Poole & the New Forest 5 Days 15 – 19 July 2019

Poole one of the prettiest resorts on the south coast. With its magnificent harbour and Brownsea Island, lots of boat trips for you to choose from, Guernsey is only a short boat ride away if you fancy it.

YOUR HOTEL You will be staying at the Thistle Poole Hotel situated on the quayside, a contemporary hotel with all modern facilities. All rooms have en suite facilities, hairdryer, tea/coffee making facilities, iron/ironing board and WIFI.

TUESDAY We include a visit to the lovely town of Wimborne with opportunity to visit the Minster Church of St Cuthburga which provide an elegant backdrop to the towns historic architecture. Its unique shopping centre with many individual shops with its setting alongside the River Allen adds to its charm.

WEDNESDAY Day at leisure with lots to do and choose from.

THURSDAY After breakfast we shall visit Christchurch well known for its 11th century priory church, afterwards we shall take a scenic drive through the New Forest calling at Lyndhurst.

FRIDAY After breakfast we leave and begin our journey home.

Looe Cornwall 7 Days 27 July – 2 August 2019

A busy fishing port, with a popular family beach, Looe has been a favourite holiday destination since Victorian times. Looe is situated on both sides of the River Looe. The two towns are joined together by a bridge across the river. It is worth visiting the harbour quay to watch the fishing boats coming in to unload their catches. The arrival of the small fishing fleet is a busy and colourful scene. Local fish can be found on the menus of many local restaurants.

YOUR HOTEL The Portbyhan Hotel situated on the quayside overlooking the harbour, this award winning hotel offers excellent accommodation with all the en suite rooms offering hair dryer, TV and hospitality tray. There is a lift. The harbour view restaurant has a fine reputation for its food. There is regular entertainment in the evening.

SATURDAY Depart early morning for our journey to Cornwall as this is a long journey you may wish to join the coach at our yard. We will stop on route for lunch before arriving at our hotel late afternoon.

SUNDAY Free time in Looe why not visit the Old Sardine Factory Museum or take a boat trip to Looe Island. Take a stroll around the shops and visit one of the many restaurants to sample some of the freshly caught fish.

MONDAY A coast to coast tour today via Bodmin Moor and Wadebridge to padstow on the River Carmel Estuary. Time for lunch in the popular seaside resort with its bustling narrow streets and quaint harbour.

TUESDAY A full day to the vibrant waterfront city of Plymouth, wander the Barbican’s picturesque cobbled quayside with its array of specialist shops and cafes. Time to take a harbour cruise or visit the Hoe where Sir Francis Drake had the legendry game of Bowls.

WEDNESDAY After a leisurely breakfast we shall make a visit to Lanhydrock House & Gardens which is owned by the National Trust, admission extra unless you are a NT Member alternatively you may prefer to go to Mevagissey the choice is yours. Lanhydrock is the perfect country house and estate, with the feel of a wealthy but unpretentious family home. Discover two sides of Victorian life: from the kitchens, nurseries and servants’ quarters, which offer a thrilling glimpse into life ‘below stairs’, to the luxurious family areas, elegant dining room and spacious bedrooms which reveal the comforts of ‘upstairs’ living. Make sure you take a stroll around the extensive gardens and enjoy their year-round colour. There are beautiful herbaceous borders, a fabulous formal parterre and colourful higher gardens filled with camellias, magnolias and rhododendrons.

THURSDAY A morning visit to Polperro the traditional Cornish fishing village enjoys traffic free narrow winding streets, tiny fisherman’s cottages, a picturesque harbour along with interesting shops and cafes. Afternoon free to explore the charming resort of Looe.

FRIDAY All too soon we depart this lovely area and set off for home arriving late afternoon.

Summertime in Northumbria 5 Days 5 – 9 August 2019

MONDAY Depart from your home area travelling to Newcastle, arriving late afternoon at Copthorne Hotel. Tea/coffee and biscuits served on arrival.

TUESDAY This morning we head for the coast and South Shields, home of the late Catherine Cookson, continuing past Marsden Bay, Whitburn and Seaburn before turning inland across to the ancient and historic City of Durham, acclaimed as a World Heritage Site and dominated by the magnificent Norman Cathedral and Castle, high above the River Wear. Late afternoon we return to Newcastle.

WEDNESDAY Today we take the road north, via Ashington, Amble, Warkworth and historic Alnwick. We have time to look round the town, with its mighty castle, and obtain lunch before returning south to Morpeth for a short break before making our way back to the hotel.

THURSDAY A free day for you to explore and enjoy Newcastle. Just a short walk along the quayside from your hotel is the Millennium ‘Winking Eye’ bridge and Newcastle’s famous quayside. Enjoy a riverside stroll before maybe enjoying lunch in a quayside pub, or take a walk into the city centre for lunch and some retail therapy in Eldon Square shopping centre.

FRIDAY After a leisurely breakfast we leave Newcastle and travel to the market town of Hexham for lunch before returning home. This is an interesting town not far from Hadrians Wall, there are shops, cafes and the Border History Museum which is well worth a visit.

Torquay Summer Sizzler with Free Bar 5 Days 12 – 16 August 2019

TORQUAY The largest and most famous seaside resort in Devon. With superb panoramic setting with wooded hills overlooking Tor Bay. The fabulous Templestowe Hotel, where every bedroom has a bath or shower en-suite, colour television, early morning tea making facilities. There is a lift to all floors some rooms have steps to them. Entertainment each evening which includes bingo, dancing and cabaret shows is among the finest standard in any hotel you may stay in. Isle of Wight based at Sandown 6 Days 24- 29 August 2019

The Isle of Wight offers a small slice of England in an area which measures just 27 miles by 13 miles. With chalky white towering stacks stretching out into the English Channel secluded sandy beaches looked over from timeless villages is postcard perfect. Sandown sheltered in a beautiful bay and is famed for its golden sandy beach.

YOUR HOTEL Trouville Hotel centrally situated on Sandown’s seafront enjoying stunning views of Sandown and Shanklin Bay. All double and twin rooms enjoy a sea view, however single rooms do not have a sea view. All rooms are en-suite with television, telephone, hair dryer and tea/coffee making facilities.

SATURDAY Depart from your home area or Kettlewell’s Yard in the morning heading south to the ferry terminal for our crossing to the Isle of Wight and arriving at our hotel in time for dinner.

SUNDAY Today is a free day to discover your lovely surroundings, perhaps take a stroll along the promenade to Shanklin or just relax in a deckchair.

MONDAY After breakfast we take you on a circular “Round the Island Tour”. The island boasts 60 miles of spectacular coastline with fabulous ocean views. we will visit Alum Bay where you may wish to take the chair lift to view the famous “Needles”. Our tour will also include a visit to the historic port town of Yarmouth which is home to the oldest architecture on the island.

TUESDAY A visit to the quintessential village of Godshill with its delightful medieval church, model village, charming thatched cottages and many interesting tea rooms.

A morning visit to Ryde returning after lunch to Sandown.

THURSDAY Sadly after breakfast we must leave this pretty island and catch the ferry to the mainland and back home.

National Trust Break Bodnant Garden, Penrhyn Castle & Plas Newydd Country House 2 Days 2 – 3 September 2019

YOUR HOTEL Bulkeley Hotel is a Grade 1 listed building situated in the heart of Beaumaris, on the Isle of Angelsey just a short walk from the beach, with spectacular views of both the Menai Strait and the mountains. All bedrooms are en suite and have television & tea & coffee making facilities.

MONDAY Depart Kettlewell’s yard early morning for our journey west to Bodnant Garden. With intimate corners, sweeping lawns, grand terraces and verdant woodland, there are many gardens in one at Bodnant. Created over 150 years, with plants collected and brought to Britain from far afield, and the incredible vision of generations of the McLaren family and Puddle head gardeners, this haven of rarity and beauty with a stunning backdrop of the Carneddau mountains of Snowdonia is a delight for the senses. With year-round colour, the garden can be whatever you want it to be, whether that’s a hive of activity or a haven of tranquility and relaxation, this is truly a special place for all ages. Our second visit of the day will be to Penryn Castle 19th-century fantasy castle with spectacular surroundings. The dominating stone façade of Penrhyn Castle hides more than just its internal red-brick construction. The unique architecture, opulent interiors and fine art collection sit alongside a history of sugar and slate fortunes, of social unrest and the longest-running industrial dispute in British history. Discover Penrhyn’s history, its vast rooms, neo-Norman stairways and Victorian kitchens. The extensive grounds are perfect for exploring and enjoying spectacular views of Snowdonia and the North Wales coast. We depart late afternoon for our hotel time to relax before dinner.

TUESDAY Our first visit of the day is Plas Newydd House & Gardens an enchanting mansion and gardens, with spectacular views of Snowdonia. A whole day of things to see and do. Set on the shores of the Menai Strait amidst breathtakingly beautiful scenery, this elegant house was redesigned by James Wyatt in the 18th century. The 1930s restyled interior is famous for its Rex Whistler association and contains his exquisite romantic mural and the largest exhibition of his works. A military museum contains relics from the First Marquess of Anglesey’s tenure, who commanded the cavalry at the Battle of Waterloo. There are fine gardens and an Australasian arboretum, with an understorey of shrubs and wild flowers, an italianate-style summer terrace, and massed hydrangeas which give autumn colour. Depart late afternoon for our journey home.

Waterways & Railways of Scotland 7 Days 15 – 21 September 2019

Despite its small size, Scotland has many treasures crammed into its compact territory – big skies, ancient architecture, spectacular wildlife and superb seafood. Known for having some of the most scenic rail journeys out there, we can guarantee that the views stretching through your window will stay with you long after your visit to Scotland has ended.

The Best Western Crianlarich Hotel stands in the village of the same name on the fringe of the beautiful Breadalbane region of Perthshire. SUNDAY Depart from your home area travelling to Northern England for overnight stay.

MONDAY This morning we continue into Southern Scotland and make our way along the shore of Loch Lomond to Crianlarich, arriving late afternoon at Crianlarich Hotel.

TUESDAY This morning we are bound for Aberfoyle and The Trossachs. Here we enjoy a sail on board Sir Walter Scott along beautiful Loch Katrine. Later we make our way via Lochearnhead to Killin for a break. We continue along Glen Dochart and make our way back to the hotel.

WEDNESDAY Our day begins with a ride east to Falkirk. Here we enjoy a ride on the restored Falkirk Wheel, used to transport canal barges from one level to another. This is a superb feat of engineering and a fascinating experience. From Falkirk we continue to the Firth of Forth and from under the famous railway bridge we take a ‘Maid of the Forth’ sail out past Inchcolm Island, with its Abbey and collection of wildlife.

THURSDAY Today we have a short walk from the hotel to the train station where we join the Scotrail train at Crianlarich for the ride to Oban. The line takes us through the Pass of Brander and alongside Loch Etive. In Oban we have time to explore the town, have a look at the harbour, enjoy lunch and relax. In the afternoon we take the train back to Crianlarich.

FRIDAY Leaving the hotel we make our way into southern Scotland and northwest England for our overnight.

SATURDAY After breakfast we are on our way home calling for lunch at a place of interest.

Liverpool City Break 2 Days 29 – 30 September 2019

YOUR HOTEL The Jury’s Inn is located on Liverpool’s Kings Waterfront adjacent to the Albert Dock and just a short walk from the popular shopping district of Liverpool One. SUNDAY An early start sees us heading west to Merseyside arriving at Liverpool around lunchtime. An ideal way to see the city is to take a Mersey Ferries short cruise and enjoy the views of the waterfront including the famous ‘Three Graces’. Explore the Albert Dock and surrounding area or just relax after your journey and watch the world go by. Our overnight stay is at Jurys Inn, with bed and breakfast and there are lots of opportunities to obtain a drink and bite to eat

MONDAY After breakfast the morning is free for you to head out and explore Liverpool. If you are looking for retail therapy the excellent Liverpool One complex is the place to go. The city has some very interesting museums to visit and learn all about the past. We depart late afternoon for our return journey.

Settle Carlisle Railway 2 Days 5 – 6 October 2019


The Settle-Carlisle railway line is one of the most famous in England. Half a million passengers ride on it every year, the majority of them for the sheer pleasure of journeying through some of the North’s most magnificent scenery from the comfort of the train. We also take in Skipton and more beautiful scenery through the Lake District.

YOUR HOTEL Nestling in ten acres of landscaped grounds and situated midway between the Borders Region and Scotland’s southwest, the 3* Gretna Hall Hotel is located in the centre of Gretna Green. SATURDAY We travel to Yorkshire and the market town of Skipton, often called the gateway to the Dales with its many shops, cobbled streets and alleyways, plus one of the most complete and well preserved medieval castles in England. We then join our diesel train for our breath-taking journey on England’s most scenic railway line – the Settle to Carlisle, one of the last great railways to be built in the country and completed in 1876. We travel through stunning countryside to Carlisle and to Gretna for dinner and overnight stay.

SUNDAY Our return journey home this morning gets under way with more beautiful scenery as we travel to the wonderful Lake District. Travelling via Keswick and Grasmere to Bowness on Lake Windermere, where we have time to have lunch, perhaps take a boat trip or just enjoy your surroundings before continuing our journey home, arriving in the early evening.

Thursford Christmas Spectacular 2 Days 24 – 25 November 2019

Set in the magical surroundings of mechanical organs and fairground carousels, with a cast of 130 professional singers, dancers and musicians – many of whom are West End performers. The three hour performance delivers an extravaganza of non-stop singing, dancing, music, humour and variety. It’s a fast moving celebration of the festive season featuring an eclectic mix of both seasonal and year-round favourites, with famous and much-loved chart toppers being sung alongside traditional carols.

THURSDAY The capital of the Emerald Isle is, with its friendly locals, fascinating history, legendary literary tradition and charming mix of medieval, Georgian and modern architecture, a city of unforgettable character. It lies on the east coast of Ireland along the banks of the River Liffey. Dublin Castle, Christchurch Cathedral, Trinity College and the beautiful square St Stephen’s Green lie south of the Liffey, whilst the glorious Custom House, majestic Four Courts and famous General Post Office add grace to Dublin’s Northside. Crossing the river the high-arched Ha’penny Bridge is one of Dublin’s most famous landmarks.


SATURDAY For over 800 years Castle Cornet has stood guard over St. Peter Port. The attractive town is a delight with cobbled streets, steep stairways and alleyways winding their way down between the houses to a picturesque waterfront of grey and white stone buildings. Guernsey is geographically closer to France, yet loyal to the British crown, and this is reflected in the wonderful Anglo-French ambience around the town. The second largest of the Channel Islands has a wonderful coastline with beautiful bays, and pastoral scenery that includes the handsome, much-prized Guernsey dairy cows. The tax-free haven is perfect for duty-free shopping.

SUNDAY Lying some 75 miles from the Seine estuary, Rouen is the historic capital of Normandy. Victor Hugo called Rouen ‘the city of a hundred spires’. Its Old Town is a delightful maze of narrow, cobblestone streets lined with fine half-timbered houses and wonderful gothic churches including the magnificent Cathedrale Notre Dame and the Eglise St. Maclou. Rouen’s Place du Vieux-Marche is famous as the site where Joan of arc was burned at the stake in 1431. Further upriver is the village of Giverny and the home of Claude Monet, who captured the beauty of Rouen in many of his paintings.

MONDAY One of France’s main seaports, Le Havre sits on the English Channel at the mouth of the River Seine approximately 150 miles north west of Paris. Founded in the 1500’s Le Havre is one of France’s greenest cities and despite extensive damage during World War II, still retains a lot of its Gothic architecture with the city centre being designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005. With a number of impressive museums and galleries, Le Havre is an ideal city from which to explore the further reaches of Normandy, as well as being well placed to visit the nearby World War II Landing Beaches


WEDNESDAY After what will have been a wonderful holiday we arrive back in Liverpool to begin our journey home arriving mid afternoon.
