Switzerland – Lucerne 8 Days 11th – 18th August 2012
The breathtaking beauty of Switzerland is known throughout the world. Prepare yourself for the sights of this unique experience, with its tumbling waterfalls, snow-capped alpine peaks, pretty villages and sparkling lakes. Our base is Hergiswil a small lakeside village on the shores of Lake Lucerne.
YOUR HOTEL The 4* Seehotel Pilatus which enjoys a
lakeside position. The hotel has many public areas including a lounge area which is light and airy as well as a Bistro bar. The restaurant overlooks the lake offering wonderful panoramic views. On a couple of evenings guests can enjoy the live music in the basement bar. The hotel has a range of leisure facilities such as the indoor swimming pool, whirlpool, sauna, Jacuzzi and fitness room. All bedrooms are decorated in a Swiss traditional style and are spacious with satellite television and hairdryer. There is a lift.
SATURDAY Depart Kettlewell’s yard early morning for our journey to Dover and short sea crossing to Calais and onto our overnight hotel in the outskirts of Reims.
SUNDAY Our journey continues through France and into Switzerland to Hergiswil for our five night stay. We enjoy a welcome drink before dinner.
MONDAY Today we make the short journey into Lucerne where its attractions include its souvenir and watch shops, the beautiful lakeside setting and the nearby mountains of Rigi, Pilatus and Stanserhorn. Complete with gable paintings, the covered, medieval Chapel Bridge forms the centerpiece of the town. There is a fantastic transport museum a short bus ride away from the centre, with everything from penny farthing bikes to airplanes.
TUESDAY Free day to explore the village, we have arranged a visit to the Glass Factory which is rich in history and the oldest glass works in Switzerland, alternatively there is an excellent train service from the village to many places, boat trips also run from the jetty.
WEDNESDAY A visit to the historic, picturesque town of Zug in an attractive location by Lake Zug. It has an historic centre and a modern part with shops to tempt you. There are museums including Art Museum, History Museum in the castle and a Fishing Museum. It is also famous for its ‘Zuger Kirschtorte’ which you must sample.
THURSDAY After breakfast we visit the lovely town on Engleburg where there will be an opportunity to visit the Cheese factory at the Monastery. (Admission extra), or just relax and enjoy your surroundings over a coffee and cake.
FRIDAY Regretfully we must leave this lovely place and retrace our steps to our overnight hotel on the outskirts of Reims.
SATURDAY We leave after breakfast for our journey to Calais and the ferry for home.
