Downton Abbey Weekend 3 Days 4th – 6th August 2012

Highclere Castle has been home to the Carnarvon family since 1679 and is steeped in history, including a fascinating connection with ancient Egypt, as the 5th Earl discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922.  The Castle now houses an exhibition that commemorates this historic event.  

Highclere Castle, the venue of the popular television period drama Downton Abbey, follow in the footsteps of the Crawley family and the servants who work for them through their country house.

YOUR HOTEL  Holiday Inn near Swindon. The hotel features full leisure facilities including an indoor heated pool, fully equipped gym, Jacuzzi and Steam Room. There is a choice of menu for dinner followed by tea and coffee.  All bedrooms are air conditioned with en-suite facilities including hairdryer, also satellite television and tea and coffee making facilities.

SATURDAY  Depart local pick points or Kettlewell’s yard.  Travelling south we make a stop in Banbury a lovely place to visit with its canal side walk, good shopping centre and of course see the Banbury cross made famous in the nursery rhyme.  Afterwards we shall travel to our hotel near Swindon.

SUNDAY  A visit to Bath one of the most beautiful towns in Britain most famous for its Roman Baths and Georgian architecture of the Royal Crescent, we shall spend the whole day here there is so much to see and do.

 MONDAY  After breakfast we depart for the highlight of the weekend, our visit to ‘Downton Abbey’ we shall have plenty of time here to explore and enjoy what we have all watched on television.  After a very enjoyable day we shall depart for home.
