Looe Cornwall 7 Days 27 July – 2 August 2019

A busy fishing port, with a popular family beach, Looe has been a favourite holiday destination since Victorian times. Looe is situated on both sides of the River Looe. The two towns are joined together by a bridge across the river. It is worth visiting the harbour quay to watch the fishing boats coming in to unload their catches. The arrival of the small fishing fleet is a busy and colourful scene. Local fish can be found on the menus of many local restaurants.

YOUR HOTEL The Portbyhan Hotel situated on the quayside overlooking the harbour, this award winning hotel offers excellent accommodation with all the en suite rooms offering hair dryer, TV and hospitality tray. There is a lift. The harbour view restaurant has a fine reputation for its food. There is regular entertainment in the evening.

SATURDAY Depart early morning for our journey to Cornwall as this is a long journey you may wish to join the coach at our yard. We will stop on route for lunch before arriving at our hotel late afternoon.

SUNDAY Free time in Looe why not visit the Old Sardine Factory Museum or take a boat trip to Looe Island. Take a stroll around the shops and visit one of the many restaurants to sample some of the freshly caught fish.

MONDAY A coast to coast tour today via Bodmin Moor and Wadebridge to padstow on the River Carmel Estuary. Time for lunch in the popular seaside resort with its bustling narrow streets and quaint harbour.

TUESDAY A full day to the vibrant waterfront city of Plymouth, wander the Barbican’s picturesque cobbled quayside with its array of specialist shops and cafes. Time to take a harbour cruise or visit the Hoe where Sir Francis Drake had the legendry game of Bowls.

WEDNESDAY After a leisurely breakfast we shall make a visit to Lanhydrock House & Gardens which is owned by the National Trust, admission extra unless you are a NT Member alternatively you may prefer to go to Mevagissey the choice is yours. Lanhydrock is the perfect country house and estate, with the feel of a wealthy but unpretentious family home. Discover two sides of Victorian life: from the kitchens, nurseries and servants’ quarters, which offer a thrilling glimpse into life ‘below stairs’, to the luxurious family areas, elegant dining room and spacious bedrooms which reveal the comforts of ‘upstairs’ living. Make sure you take a stroll around the extensive gardens and enjoy their year-round colour. There are beautiful herbaceous borders, a fabulous formal parterre and colourful higher gardens filled with camellias, magnolias and rhododendrons.

THURSDAY A morning visit to Polperro the traditional Cornish fishing village enjoys traffic free narrow winding streets, tiny fisherman’s cottages, a picturesque harbour along with interesting shops and cafes. Afternoon free to explore the charming resort of Looe.

FRIDAY All too soon we depart this lovely area and set off for home arriving late afternoon.
