This is something not to be missed, Wakefield is famous for the growing of Rhubarb and it all comes to a head at this exciting festival of Rhubarb, food and drink. There will be lots of stalls not only selling Rhubarb but many other local produce, stalls for tasting of food and drink, stalls where growers will offer advice and a taste of their own produce, you may even be tempted to buy some rhubarb to grow yourself for next year. A great day out. Wakefield’s town centre will have all its shops with the latest goods on show. Plenty of cafes and restaurants too.

Explorer Tamworth & Planters Garden Centre Tuesday 28th February 2012

Join us today on a visit to the Saxon town of Tamworth, this was originally the Ancient Capital of Mercia dating back to the 6th century. There a re lots of places to explore including St Editha’s Church, Tamworth Castle and of course a very good compact shopping centre. We visited Tamworth last June and everyone was thrilled with the place, so we felt we should make another visit. Afterwards we shall round off the afternoon shopping at the Planters Garden Centre and maybe treat yourself to afternoon tea too.

Explorer Ashton under Lyne & Stockport Tuesday 6th March 2012

Today a new destination to explore Ashton-under-Lyne a very interesting town with old and new. The old Town is an interesting criss cross of streets which were developed during Victorian times home to over 150 high quality independent retailers. There is also two shopping centres with top high street names including Marks & Spencer. In the town centre is the historic Market Hall with over 700 stalls. If culture is your interest the town has several museums and art galleries all with free entrance. Later in the day we shall visit the town of Stockport where there is time for shopping or a visit to the Hat Museum.

Downtown Shopping Centre Half Day Wednesday 14th March 2012

Our little morning trips to Downtown for a shopping morning are proving to be very popular. Downtown has so many outlets under one roof that it is just the perfect way to shop. Everything from fashion to white goods, furniture and flooring. Just across the from the shopping complex is the Garden Centre so you can buy things to spruce up your garden as well as yourself and your home. Plenty of time for a coffee during the morning and why not treat yourself to a light lunch in the restaurant before we make our way back to Retford at 14.30.

Mothering Sunday Drive Brigg Garden Centre & Grimsby Sunday 18th March 2012

Our Sunday Drive this month will have the morning and lunch at Brigg Garden Centre, just the place for Mothering Sunday lunch. This is just not a Garden Centre as there are also many small outlets here too. From gardening to clothing to giftware and a really very good restaurant. After our two hour visit here we will move onto Grimsby where you could visit the Heritage Centre which is well worth a look or just simply enjoy a stroll by the sea, get some sea air or continue shopping in the very good selection of shops that Grimsby has to offer.

Dobbies Garden Centre half Day Tuesday 20th March 2012

This is another popular half day destination Dobbies Garden Centre, again not just a Garden Centre as there are so many different shops within shops and also a very small shopping complex is attached to the Garden Centre. A lovely café or restaurant, so that you could also have a morning coffee and light lunch before we leave at 13.30 to make our way back to Retford.

Barnsley is very well know for its market on a Friday. With lots of stalls selling everything from local produce to meat to household good, giftware and fashion.
